STORIES OF HOPE
LOST JOBS. FOUND HOPE.
A 4-year-old child receives a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) after repeated concerns about struggling health. Further compounding this shocking diagnosis was the father’s inability to find consistent work in the construction industry and the mother’s recent job loss as a result of corporate downsizing.
With two other children in the home, the family learns their son must remain in the hospital for a month and a half for treatment.
Nearing the end of the hospital stay and as the child is prepared for discharge, the family must find adequate housing. While their child was admitted, the family moved in with family to ease the financial burden but it is not a safe environment for a child that is immunosuppressed.
Working with the family, we were able to help them to secure a new apartment that has more space and better caters to the child’s medical needs, while also providing food vouchers, rent and utility assistance and furniture.
